Glimpses of Heaven: True Stories of Hope & Peace at the End of Life's Journey

Author: Trudy Harris, R.N.

Glimpses of Heaven is a collection of more than forty true stories of people who experienced, with spiritual eyes and ears things that cannot be explained in human terms. In each story you will meet a different patient of the author Trudy Harris, who was a hospice nurse for over 25 years.

As they reached the end of their lives, her patients gave Trudy incredible glimpses of what lies beyond this world. Their amazing encounters reveal visions of angels, visits by loved ones who have gone on before, the sounds of ethereal music, colors that do not exist on earth and the smell of fragrant flowers when there were none around.

Trudy relates her patients' experiences firsthand, and shows us how God led them home to the glories of heaven. She also offers her deep personal insights about how to care for your loved ones and listen to their needs and desires at the end of their journey.

Crossing the Threshold of Eternity: What the Dying Can Teach the Living

Author: Robert L. Wise

We have virtually no sense of the "other side." The common assumption is that no one has come back to tell us, but the truth is that over 15 million Americans have had near-death experiences or actually died and returned with medical intervention. Robert L. Wise has interviewed some of these people and gathered their remarkable stories in Crossing the Threshold of Eternity.

Dr. Wise relates the awe-inspiring experiences he has documented, providing empirical evidence that the afterlife truly exists.

He examines the lessons we can learn from these stories, and gives advice on how we can put the issues of living and dying in a balanced framework, set aside any denial or apprehension about dying and also help our loved ones cross over.

Crossing the Threshold of Eternityis a treasure trove of information that helps us understand the steps people go through as they prepare for this next step in life's journey. As you read these two powerful books, Glimpses of Heaven: True Stories of Hope & Peace at the End of Life's Journey and Crossing the Threshold of Eternity: What the Dying Can Teach the Living you'll be both awestruck and endlessly comforted.

Editorial Reviews

Glimpses of Heaven

"As a hospice nurse and the former president of the Hospice Foundation for Caring, Harris has seen more than her share of death. In Glimpses of Heaven, a collection of 44 real-life stories, she shares her own journeys with patients in their final days, with an eye not only to what the dying experience, but what those last days, weeks and months may teach those of us who walk with them. Regardless of our lifelong faith, or lack thereof, Harris believes most dying people come to experience God's unconditional love and His desire to welcome us home—a point illustrated by the book's stories. Many of the shorter two- or three-page stories lack enough detail or new information to be thought-provoking or spiritually nurturing, but Harris's longer anecdotes, like those about her grandparents, are deeply touching and encouraging. Those attending a dying person will find examples of ways they may listen to and be helpful to them. Those who wonder about what their own journey toward death may be like will find in these stories a demystification of the last days of life on earth and future glimpses of heaven that offer comfort and hope."

Crossing the Threshold of Eternity

"In (Crossing the Threshold of Eternity) this unassuming but engrossing volume on what the dying can teach the living, Wise accomplishes something rather unusual: making a case for the validity of near-death experiences from a traditional Christian perspective. The prolific nonfiction author and novelist, an archbishop in the Communion of Evangelical Episcopal Churches, has conservative Christian bona fides twinned with a gentle, folksy manner that invites readers to take his collection of snapshots from the deathbed seriously and to confront their own fear of death. Drawing from a very wide-ranging array of Scriptural, spiritual and literary narratives, Wise hopes to inspire readers to listen to those who are dying, ask questions that help them articulate what they are experiencing and even pray for their healing as they make the passage from this world to the one Wise is convinced is just in front of them. For almost every argument that scientists have posed attempting to debunk near-death experiences, Wise has a countervailing anecdote, presented with winsome humility. Will his eclectic array of stories convince the skeptics? Probably not but neither can his volume be dismissed as syncretistic psychobabble. In most respects a common-sense manual of pastoral care for the dying, this book should be popular with Christians and non-Christians alike."

These two books are about the extraordinary door to God's presence that opens to individuals in the closing moments of their lives. One is written by a hospice nurse who witnessed these experiences and the other by a pastor relaying his encounters of companionship with the dying.
